@blauf20 managed this epic stag after watching him for some time the previous day wade in a pond during the heat of the day. After passing up a few others we finally looked eyes on the same stag and after a wee bit of “cat and mouse” play he managed to seal the deal with 1x clean shot.

1st shot right in the shoulder and double lung. 👌 He was dead on his feet but adrenaline can have them get up and bolt, even on a broken leg.

“This doesn’t seem real”. Jason’s exact words as he places his hands on an animal until now he had only dreamed of hunting.

Everything seemed to just fall into place for this hunt. Beautiful weather, a number of awesome stags to cast our eye over, cracking shot placement and as luck would have it the stags antler managed to dig into the hillside anchoring him right on the edge of ATV access meaning no carry.

What a result and what an awesome example of a 400-450” NZ Red Stag.
